Originally from Finland, there are two types of Finnish horse which have basically descended from the same stock. There is the Finish Universal and the now quite rare Finnish Draft Horse.


Horse (Finnhorse)
A descendant of the northern European domestic horse, the Finnhorse belongs to the general horse breeds, having both warmblood and heavier draft blood influence.

Finnish horse is descended from two closely-related breeds, the Finnish Universal and the Finnish Draught, which have now merged into one. It is also known as Finnhorse. This horse is a native of Finland.

The Horse, also know as Finnhorse or Universal (in : "Suomenhevonen", petname "Suokki"), is a horse breed originating from Finland.

The Finnish Warmblood breeding association was founded in 1926 with the intention of breeding a warmblooded riding horse that could be used for both sport & military service.

horse is the only native breed of horse in Finland. It is a descendant of the northern European domestic horse with both warmblood and heavier draft influences.

There were originally two types of Finnish horse - the Finnhorse Draft and the Finnish Universal. Over the years, the two breeds have been widely interbred, and the heavier draft has largely disappeared.

The Draught has a fast-stepping stride and is well-suited to hard agricultural work.

Very nearly all horses have been registered since 1971. There are four breeding sections: J = trotter, R = riding horse, T = draft and P = pony-sized Finnhorse. Some horses are registered in several breeding lines.
