A tabular file containing rows and columns. Descriptive attributes about some object, such as a geographic feature, are contained in each row. The same column in each row represents the same attribute.
Most GIS enable the user to view the data in tabular form without necessarily using map graphics at all. This is equivalent to using typical office spreadsheet software.
